Start Your Career with an Apprenticeship

Real skills. Real work. Real pay. (And no boring lectures either.) Okay, fine — there are a few boring lectures... but we promise to keep them as fun as humanly possible.

What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real job with an employer, combined with structured training delivered by HomeServe Training Academy. You’re employed by a company; we provide the off-the-job learning, skills practice and assessment that build your competence.

Training runs on block release: typically one week in our Nottingham academy every four, working on live systems (not demo boards), with the remaining weeks on site applying those skills.

We can help you prepare and connect you with opportunities where possible, but we can only deliver apprenticeship training once you’ve secured employment.

Important: The apprenticeship opportunities listed on this website are training programmes, not applications for roles at HomeServe. If you’re interested in employment opportunities with HomeServe (including any available apprenticeships), please visit homeservejobs.co.uk.

What You’ll Need

Curiosity for the trade

Interested in plumbing/gas/heat.

Willingness to learn

Show up, learn, improve.

Professionalism

Respect people & property.

Employer secured

Employer in place (we’ll help).

Maths & English GCSEs will help (especially for gas & low-temp calculations), but they aren’t essential to be considered — we can support with Level 2 Functional Skills if needed.

Finding an Employer

We’re a training provider — not a recruiter — but we’ll support you to secure a role. We can introduce you to employers where appropriate and help you present yourself well. You’ll still need to be proactive and get your name out there.

How we’ll help

  • Guidance on CVs, outreach and interviews
  • Where possible, warm introductions to partner employers
  • Clear steps for what to do each week until you’re hired

What you’ll do

  • Contact local firms with a short, professional intro
  • Try to visit employers in person, first impressions matter
  • Follow up politely and keep a simple outreach tracker

💡 A good attitude beats a polished CV every time.

What learning looks like with our Apprenticeships

Apprentices spend 1 week out of every 4 at our dedicated training centre in Nottingham, with the remaining 3 weeks developing their skills on-site with their employer/mentor.
